Budapest - day 1

Budapest is the capital city of Hungary and the country's principal

political, cultural, commercial, industrial and transportation centre.
Budapest had 1,696,128 inhabitants in 2007.Budapest became a
single city occupying both banks of the river Danube with the
amalgamation on 17 November 1873 of right-bank (west) Buda
together with Pest on the left (east) bank.

Budapest Keleti railway station (Budapest Keleti pályaudvar) is the main international and inter-city railway terminal in Budapest, Hungary. It lies at the end of Rákóczi Avenue and at the beginning of Kerepesi Avenue and Thököly Avenue. The terminal is named after the eastern (keleti) direction towards Transylvania and the Balkans. The building was constructed in eclectic style between 1881 and 1884 and was one of the most modern railway stations of Europe in that time. It was planned by Gyula Rochlitz and János Feketeházy.

The main façade is adorned with two statues of James Watt and George Stephenson.

In the central part of the city I find this old and retro apartment place for just 15 Euro per night.

Close to everything that I like to see and visit.

I must say the prices here in Budapest are really low. You can eat and drink

in top rated restaurangs for same price as in the supermarket at home.

My first visit at a typical place in Budapest was the popular Chain Bridge.

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Hungarian: Széchenyi lánchíd) is a suspension bridge that spans the

River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest, the capital of
Hungary. Designed by the English engineer William Tierney Clark, it was the first permanent bridge
across the Danube in Budapest, and was opened in 1849. It is anchored on the Pest side of the
river to Széchenyi (formerly Roosevelt) Square, adjacent to the Gresham Palace and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and on the Buda side to Adam Clark Square, near the Zero Kilometer Stone
and the lower end of the Castle Hill Funicular, leading to Buda Castle.

Brandenburger Tor

Brandenburger Tor is an city entrance to Berlin. This is a typical monument for Berlin. And the other building is where the Chancellor/ the boss of Germany hang out. The last picture is on Europes biggest central train station. I have now spent 3 lovely days in Berlin and now I have a train ticket to Prague. A 4,5 hour ride. It's going to be fun. I love to go by train and just sit and look out the window. Czech Republic here I come.

Berlin Wall

Today I have visit the memorial place for the Berlin Wall. Very interesting to see this place. Incredible how terrible it was between east and west. Pepople from east try to flee to west and got killed. The living situation for the east block was not human. Here on the picture you can see relics from the wall. But that is the past and and now I´m sitting and drinking a beer and looking at people. Soon Im going to see the Brandenburger Tor.

First stop Berlin.

My first plan was to road trip down in Europe but things come between. My daughter got sick and now she is ok again. My child must go first so now I have less time and to short for a road trip. But I can do this road trip in spring insted. So I helped car rental Hertz in Hudiksvall to take a almost new car for them to Hertz in Arlanda airport. It´s free and this so called Freerider is everywhere in the world. A perfect way to travel cheap. A car rental service needs sometime to take a car to a another place. And insted that the rental company hire someone and pay salary people like me do this for free. It´s a win win situation for both. And I have booked a flight to Berlin this evening. After some day in the capital of Germany it's going to be a train trip through Europe. The weather is sunny and 20 degree FH in Berlin so I think this trip is going to be as nice as an road trip with an old Nissan Micra. Train is also loveley to travel in. And this blogg I just wrote was from 10 000 meters up. First time for me to use internet on an airplane. Norwegian is one of few airplane companys that offer this service. Europe here I come.
